I mean it when I say that Miniature Goldendoodles are the cutest, sweetest little dogs in the world.

As this breed’s popularity rises each year, it’s clear that many dog owners feel the same way about them too!

Like other designer breeds, Mini Doodles are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Miniature Poodle. This hybrid mix combines the laidback, gentle personality of the Golden Retriever with the energetic, intelligent nature of the Mini Poodle. The result? With their beautiful wavy locks and cute button nose, it’s no wonder the Mini Goldendoodle breed has won the hearts of many dog owners over the years. Of course, this breed isn’t just popular for its good looks—they also have so many amazing traits that make them special.

On this blog, I’ll go over everything that you need to know about the Mini Goldendoodle breed. If you feel ready to bring a Doodle into your life, take some time to catch up on this gorgeous, fluffy dog!

History of Mini Goldendoodle

The Mini Goldendoodle shares its origin story with every designer dog breed: the 1980s and 1990s. During this era, many dog breeders went through a designer breed craze.

They wanted to create a dog that was cute, friendly, and hypoallergenic. The first Goldendoodle dog was sired in the mid-to-late 1980s, which inherited the traits of its Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle parents.

As dog breeders continued to breed their dogs for desired traits, the Mini Goldendoodle was then created in the late 1990s. These Doodles were specifically bred to be small, hypoallergenic dogs that could get along with all kinds of families.

So far, the Mini Goldendoodle has lived up to its purpose. Doodles are highly popular dogs that continue to bring love, companionship, and happiness to many families each day!

Types of Mini Goldendoodles

There are many different generational types of Mini Goldendoodles. Don’t be too intimidated by the random letters assigned for each breed generation. These letters indicate the type of mix your Mini Doodle is.

Why is this important? Well, it tells you how many traits your Doodle inherits from each of its parents. Since this breed is mixed with the Mini Poodle, all of its generational types are small-sized, hypoallergenic, and intelligent.

Here’s a breakdown of all types of Mini Goldendoodles.

  • F1 Mini Goldendoodle

The F1 Mini Goldendoodle is a first-generation mix of the Golden Retriever and Miniature Poodle breeds. These dogs are 50% Golden Retriever and 50% Miniature Poodle so you’ll notice an equal amount of traits of each parent breed in your Doodle. This includes an easygoing temperament, curly or wavy fur, and a hypoallergenic coat.

  • F1B Mini Goldendoodle

The F1B Mini Goldendoodle is a cross between the F1 Mini Goldendoodle and the Miniature Poodle breeds. For this generational type, Mini Doodles are 75% Miniature Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever. As such, your F1B Doodle will be easy to train, non-aggressive, and hypoallergenic.

  • F2B Mini Goldendoodle

The F2B Mini Goldendoodle is a hybrid of the F1 Mini Goldendoodle and the F1B Mini Goldendoodle breeds. This makes your puppy 60% Miniature Poodle and 35% Golden Retriever. Because they inherit a huge percentage of Mini Poodle genes, your F2B Mini Goldendoodle puppy may have a very curly, hypoallergenic coat.

  • F2BB Mini Goldendoodle

The F2BB is a cross between the F2B Mini Goldendoodle and Miniature Poodle. F2BB Mini Goldendoodle puppies are 85% Poodle and 10% Golden Retriever. Like the other types of Mini Doodles, these puppies are highly intelligent, energetic, and trainable. They’re also the most hypoallergenic type of Mini Goldendoodle on this list. Their coat may be very curly or wavy so be prepared to brush your F2BB puppy’s fur regularly.

  • F3 Mini Goldendoodle

The F3 Mini Goldendoodle is a mix of the F1B Mini Goldendoodle with another F1B Mini Goldendoodle. These doodles are born with a high amount of Poodle genes so they’re a great pet for anyone with allergies. For this type of Mini Goldendoodle, it’s important to brush and trim your puppy on a daily basis to prevent knots and mats.

Mini Goldendoodle Size

Mini Goldendoodle sizes are hard to predict because it all depends on the breeding of each litter. Some Mini Goldendoodle puppies may inherit more traits from their Golden Retriever parent than their Mini Poodle one. In most cases, this breed tends to be small. The average Miniature Goldendoodle will grow between 14 and 17 inches tall. A petite Goldendoodle will stand below 14 inches. Mini Goldendoodles weigh an average of 10 to 25 pounds.

Appearance

Mini Goldendoodles are always praised for resembling little teddy bears. Even as puppies, many dog owners can’t resist their doe-like eyes and soft, gorgeous coat. Mini Doodles have a well-balanced body with medium-length ears and a long, wagging tail.

The most defining feature of this breed is its wavy to curly coat. Depending on their breeding, their fur can grow long around their tail, body, ears, and legs. Their coat also comes in a variety of colors and patterns, such as black, copper, cream, red, and even golden. Their coat colors depend on the breeding and colors of their parents but the most common colors are golden and red.

Temperament

Mini Goldendoodles have a similar temperament as their Golden Retriever parent. Laidback, happy, energetic, these little pooches love to revolve their world around their families. Their dedication to their loved ones makes them a great companion to have every moment of your life.

Your Mini Goldendoodle puppy will enjoy spending their day following you around, keeping you company. In fact, Doodles aren’t known for enjoying alone time. They crave human contact so it’s important to ensure your Mini Doodle receives the social stimulation they need to be happy. If your Doodle isn’t socialized or trained, they may be prone to separation anxiety in adulthood.

Mini Goldendoodles are also very playful. They enjoy indulging in fun games with their owners, whether it’s a game of fetch or a puzzle toy. Due to their friendly nature, Mini Doodles are never aggressive with humans, including strangers. They may even befriend a stranger they meet the moment they get a good ear scratching!

This makes them terrible guard and watchdogs. All Doodles ever want to do is be friends with everyone in the world! Be sure to socialize and train your Mini Goldendoodle puppy early so that their personality always shines through.

Grooming

Grooming is an essential part of a Mini Goldendoodle’s hygiene routine. And this isn’t just a once-in-a-blue-moon brushing either. To maintain your Doodle’s good looks, they will need regular brushing, trimming, nail clipping, and bathing.

Most Mini Goldendoodles inherit the hypoallergenic coat from their Mini Poodle parents. This type of coat prevents loose hairs and dander from getting on your furniture, clothes, and floor.

For those who suffer from allergies, a hypoallergenic dog is a godsend. However, this also means you’ll need to cut and trim your Mini Doodle’s fur every couple of weeks since their coat doesn’t naturally shed these hairs.

Mini Goldendoodles must be bathed at least once a month to keep their fur shiny and healthy. Remember that lack of grooming leads to knotting and mats…and your Mini Doodle deserves better!

Exercise

Miniature Poodles and Golden Retrievers are two of the most energetic dog breeds in the world. Of course, their offspring, the Miniature Goldendoodle is also a highly energetic, outgoing little dog.

Doodles need at least 20-30 minutes of exercise a day (and sometimes more!). These dogs prefer games that involve endurance like running, jogging, walking, and chasing after toys. Once you get your Mini Doodle going, there’s no stopping them. If they have playmates, they won’t ever stop trying to play with them.

Along with physical games, Mini Doodles are also great with mental games. Kong toys, puzzle games, and scavenger hunts help stimulate a Doodle’s brain. This is an incredible way to reinforce their high intelligence, making them even smarter than they already are!

Of course, due to their high-energy personality, Mini Doodles need wide spaces to roam free, play, and explore. They’re well suited to have furry playmates. Of course, when you get home, your Mini Doodle puppy is more than happy to give you attention!

Food/Diet

For Mini Goldendoodle puppies, nutrition is a big deal. A nutritious diet helps Doodles maintain their health and grow into well-balanced, happy Mini Goldendoodles.

As a dog owner, it’s your responsibility to ensure that your puppy is receiving the right nutrients and the right portions. Mini Doodle puppies should be receiving the following vitamins and minerals through their food:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin K
  • Calcium
  • Phosphorus
  • B vitamins (this include b-12 and biotin)

Managing your puppy’s portions is also important. Mini Doodles love to eat, and they’ll eat anything you decide to feed them. You need to determine the right amount of kibble your Doodle needs to eat so that they aren’t overfed. And if your little pup has been a good boy or girl, make sure to give them a yummy treat every once in a while (but not too much!)

Training

Mini Goldendoodles are a highly intelligent dog breed—and that’s not just my bias talking! Mini Doodles gain their smarts from their Mini Poodle parents. Their eagerness to learn and high energy level make it easy to train them. They always want to learn new tricks and commands so you’ll have lots of fun teaching your Doodle everything.

Just make sure to use positive reinforcement when you’re training your puppy. When you use positive reinforcement, you use rewards like treats and praises to show your puppy what behaviors cause a positive reaction.

This pushes them to continue performing the same tricks. In contrast, negative reinforcement involves scolding and even hitting your Doodle, which can cause them to fear and resent you. It also doesn’t help them learn anything new. When in doubt, always use positive reinforcement.

Mini Goldendoodles are talented in obedience and agility training. Training and socialization need to start early so that they make the most of what they’re learning. Without sufficient training, Mini Doodles may develop behavior problems as adults, including destructive behavior and separation anxiety. So get your Mini Goldendoodle going with training as soon as you bring them home!

Mini Goldendoodles are a treasure to have at home! As one of the most adorable, loving, and friendly creatures on earth, Doodles always know how to turn the saddest days into happy ones. Their sunny personalities, small size, and hypoallergenic coat make them the perfect furry companion for all types of families.

Make sure you’re ready to handle a new puppy. Mini Doodles deserve a happy, loving home that’s able to meet their exercise, grooming, and training needs.
